These Vloggers are Heating Things Up
Documenting their Travels all over the World
My husband and I love travel shows and vlogs, we stumbled across a YouTube channel last week called “The Way We Saw It” and we are hooked. I reached out to the stars Martti and Fridtjof to find out a little more about them and their travels.
So, tell us a little about Martti and Fridtjof and your life of traveling.
Martti and Fridtjof are a couple for 14 years now and married for 10 years. After working hard for many years and running a company together, the idea of making a break and traveling the world sounded appealing. This had been a dream for both of us starting from conversations together.
We had been both traveling a lot for work, so we had a pretty good idea of the places we wanted to see, so the idea of an “around-the-world” trip was something we wanted to pursue.
How did you get started doing travel vlogs?
The idea of travel vlogs started with an experiment we did using our mobile phones shooting our first vlog. We edited it on our tablet and were pretty satisfied with the result. This “vlog #1” can still be viewed on our channel. We actually wanted to create a souvenir for ourselves of our travels, so we could go back and see the places we had visited, how we saw them and how we felt about them. Also, it was an easy way for our families and friends to follow our journey. We did not only want to do destination videos but give a little of our personality too, especially when we knew that family and friends would be following. So, the title “The Way We Saw It” was born. We now have more than 200 vlogs in the channel from 16 countries so far.
What are your top 3 travel destinations?
During our travels in Latin America, we fell in love with Mexico. One of us had only been there for work so we didn’t really have a clear image of that destination. As we believe that the 50% of the travel experience is made up of the destination itself and the other 50% from the people, Mexico, and its people made our experience there just wonderful.
We both love Asia a lot as we had been there quite a few times earlier. We especially like Thailand and its people, maybe more in the less touristic destinations. We haven’t been there yet on this “around-the-world” trip so many vlogs from there will be posted in the coming months.
Another favorite of ours is Sri Lanka. That is a destination with many different climate zones in a compact size, beautiful beaches and landscapes, rich history and wonderful people.
Is this your full-time job?
As we do not have a full-time job at the moment, traveling is kind of a full time “job” at the moment.
What is the next destination on your itinerary and where would you like to take this travel vlogs you do?
We will stay in Europe until mid-October and then return to Latin America, pursue our “around-the-world” trip in Mexico and then visit Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Chile and the Easter Islands before heading to the South Sea, Polynesia, Oceania, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. We hope to fulfill the trip in about two years and then we will see where life takes us.
We hope that the vlogs and the YouTube channel fulfill the initial purpose of granting a memory for ourselves at the end of the trip and entertaining as many followers as possible, some of whom we have already met and who have become friends. We hope that it gives many people the idea that traveling is enriching and helps people come together and also ideas what to do and see in the destinations we visit.
